A return to Goodison Park could revitalise the English midfielder.

In the build-up to Sunderland’s match against thai sbo Fulham on Friday night, Chris Coleman’s scathing remarks on the subject of exiled midfielder Jack Rodwell made headlines.

The former English international was torn apart by his manager’s harsh comments, leading many to wonder what is next for the 27-year-old central midfielder.

It is clear his future does not lie at the Stadium of Light, as the club has suffered consecutive relegations and will likely be unable to foot his sizable wage.

The once-promising English youngster joined the Black Cats from Manchester City in 2014 for a hefty fee of £10 million but has largely failed to impress at the club.

Rodwell made 20 appearances during last season’s Premier League relegation campaign but has since been absent from the first team set-up.

With only three first-team appearances to his name this season, with the last coming in September 2017, the subject of the midfielder has been an embarrassing stain on the club.

Chris Coleman made it clear how little he values Rodwell.

“I don’t even know where Jack is,” he told BBC Sport. It was a damning statement, detailing thai sbo the breakdown in communication that has occurred between the player and the club.

The midfielder was given a chance to walk away from the club in January on a free transfer, but he revealed in an interview with the Daily Mail that he had no intentions of leaving Sunderland.

Now Rodwell must surely be on the way out of the Stadium of Light given his manager’s public humiliation of the 27-year-old.

For the midfielder, once a promising youngster who made his professional debut for Everton at just 16 years of age, a career-saving move is necessary this summer.

A sensational return to Goodison Park could be the perfect move for Rodwell to restart his footballing dream. His best days were spent at his local club, and the Southport-born midfielder would crucially feel at home at Everton after a long exile.

The England international also still has much to offer at the top level of football and his best football in recent memory came when playing under Everton manager Sam Allardyce at Sunderland.

A reunion with both his former manager and past club could be a superb transfer for Jack Rodwell this summer, finally allowing the midfielder to recapture thai sbo his sensational form of yesteryear.
